Dargon's Enchanrtment page 35

Prince Adam and Princess Eva quietly ran around the gate to the east. They flattened their bodies against the great golden wall round the corner from the gated wall. Prince Adam peeked around to see where the guards were. When he saw they were coming back to the gate, he hurriedly slipped his head back behind the wall. Eva feared the guards would hear their hearts beating out of their chest.

When they reached their post, one guard said to the other, “Must have been a rabbit or squirrel.”

Prince Adam peeked one more time around the wall to make sure the guards weren’t heading in their direction. Finding them back in place, he lifted his hand and waved Princess Eva toward him. Eva followed quietly behind Adam outside of the castle as they headed toward the southern wall. When they were almost to the corner, Princess Eva’s foot caught a stone that flipped up and made a noise when it fell. Prince Adam grabbed her hand and practically dragged her behind the south wall. They stopped and pressed against warm golden stone breathing quickly.

They heard a guard make his way onto the cobblestone path that led out of the castle and around to the east side of the castle wall. “Nothing here,” said he.

“Still, we should inform the King as soon as he returns,” said the guard, still at his post.

“Yes. Not enough commotion to sound the alarm, but concerning none the less,” said the other guard as he made his way back to his post.

By this time Prince Adam and Princess Eva were facing the cursed sea.

“We’re free!”Adam shouted, taking a deep breath. “Come on, Eva!” Prince Adam took Princess Eva’s hand. “Let’s run!”

They ran, giggling together through the grassy northern areas that lay between the castle wall and the inviting water.

“No one will bother us here,” said Prince Adam. When they stopped, it was under a large apple tree and Prince Adam added, “The order from our father keeps everybody from coming back here!”

After a minute of rest Princess Eva asked, “How are we going to get back in the Kingdom without being seen?”

“Good question. Let’s look along the wall. Maybe there is a crack or something we can climb through.” Adam suggested.

“As good as the walls are kept around this kingdom, I find that highly unlikely,” said Princess Eva.
