“What about the
lesson?” she asked.
“Lessons
lessons, I am sick of lessons. I want to get out into the warm sunshine. The
weather is just too perfect to sit here for one more lesson.”
Princess Eva
turned to hear what Prince Adam was mumbling, which caught the guide’s
attention once again.
“What was that,
Prince Adam?” asked Celestial.
When Prince
Adam heard his name, he sat up and answered, “Nothing. Sorry.”
“Can’t you
hear?” The guide asked, “I can find a place for you here at the front.”
“I’m fine
really,” said Prince Adam seriously.
Celestial went
back to her lecture again.
“Eva,” he
whispered when he was sure the guide was too engaged to pay any attention to
him.
“Yea?”
“Let’s sneak
outside. I’ll watch and tell you when it’s
safe for us to go.”
Princess Eva
smiled and waited.
Prince Adam knew
if he watched carefully, they could slip away unnoticed. As the guide continued
to drone on about the man, the two sons, and the inheritance, Prince Adam watched
for their chance to leave. The story was interesting enough, but this guide
just had an uninteresting way of telling it, which made the outside even more
alluring.
Adam watched and
waited. Celestial turned to write some information about the story on a large
blackboard with pictures that drew the pupils’ attention. That’s when Prince Adam
made his move. He got up quietly. Keeping low, he took Princess Eva’s hand. Lightly
and quickly they tiptoed out the door and ran as hushed as possible down the
hall. When they reach the steps of the foyer, Adam looked carefully around the
corner. When he saw no one about, he and Eva quietly slid down the golden
banister and hid behind the stairs between the foyer and the left hall.
“Look
Eva, see that curtain at the end of the hall?”
Eva looked away
from the foyer toward the back of the hall.
“There is a door
behind it that goes outside. Come on,” motioned Prince Adam, whispering.
“How do you
know?” Princess Eva asked.
