“I told ya’ Eva. That
old story is just a tale to keep us out of the sea to ruin our fun. Come on. Let’s
jump.”
They took each others hand and held
their noses with the other, jumped up, and splashed down deep into the water. They
came up sputtering and splashing, laughing happily. They swam and swam,
forgetting about everything.
Meanwhile,
Prince Adam and Princess Eva’s guides had finished their duties. Class was just
letting out for luncheon. Adam and Eva’s guides were waiting by the door,
watching with other guides for their charges to exit the room. Soon the room
was emptied and they realized the two were missing.
“Royals did any of you see Prince
Adam and Princess Eva?” asked Edith as the royals headed down the hall.
After several royals said they had not seen
the pair Edith turned to Charity, “You take this floor, and I’ll check the
next.”
They looked and
looked, but neither Prince Adam nor Princess Eva could be found. As the guides
were searching, they met Orfa the scribe on her way back from putting away some
scrolls. Orfa saw that the guides looked frazzled.
“What is going
on here?” asked the scribe.
“Oh Orfa, we
can’t find Prince Adam or Princess Eva anywhere,” said Charity.
“We have looked
on all the floors,” said Edith.
“Check one more
time and meet me at the bottom of the stairs if you do or don’t find them,” said
Orfa. “I’ll check the armory, kitchen, and the Celebration Hall. The east and
west corridor rooms behind the stairs are locked at the moment, but I will
check them as well.”
Orfa checked the
Celebration Hall. It was empty. Then she went to the kitchen and spoke to the
workers.
“No haven’t seen
any royals in here.”
She checked the
armory.
“We were just
closing up for the day,” they said, “No royals since class time.”
Orfa went back
to the foyer. She checked the hall at the left of the stairs. They were all
locked. “I just remembered,” she said to no one, “There is a secret door at the
end of the hall.”She went down and moved the curtain. The door was slightly
ajar. Orfa rushed back down the hall to the heralds that stood near the stairs.
She took her scroll and wrote something and handed it to one of the heralds.
“Announce this,” she said.
