journey, Luca
disappeared to mope in his room. He left his tower only for food or to bring large
rocks to the tower. When he had gotten all the boulders he needed, he looked around
at his room’s emptiness.
“Since I am now
responsible for this castle while the King is away, why should I sleep on the
ground?”
Then he placed the rocks into piles around the
room. He took up his ruby necklace and pointed it at a pile. “You are now a
large silver mirror on golden legs with golden trim,” he said, and it was so.
He pointed at another pile, “You are
now a purple velvet cushion within a golden frame.”
A plush cushion
of purple velvet appeared in front of the fireplace.
“How about a treasure chest?” he asked himself,
eyes growing big with anticipation.
He pointed his necklace, and one appeared. It
was large with a rounded top made of white wood and golden metal latches. Inside
the chest were diamonds, rubies, emerald, amethyst, gold necklaces, and many
other jewels. Most amazing of all, a bejeweled golden crown sat on the top. Luca
dug out the crown. Looking at himself in the mirror, he placed it on his head
and said,
“Surely if those
little royal things get to wear a crown, should I not have one better than
they? I am second to the King in the Kingdom.”
He placed the crown on his head and a large
jeweled round his neck and looked in the mirror. “Aren’t you marvelous?” He took the jeweled finery off and placed
them back in the chest carefully closing the lid.
“I think I’ll take a tour around the grounds
before dinner.”
He flew up to his perch and flew out
the window and glided around the castle.
“Look!” Prince Patrick said who was playing outside.
As he pointed to the sky, “Luca is flying today.”
The little royals gathered around,
shading their eyes with their hands as they looked upward.
“Great, now I’m a
fancy bird to stare at,” thought Luca and flew back in his room.
One day when the King was on yet
another trip, Luca flew down to the royal kitchen for one of his many meals. Princess Carlea came into the dining hall and
boldly approached the dragon.
