Chapter 6: The Confrontation
“I gave the dragon his power, and now I must take it back,” The King
said sadly.
“How,
father? How can it be done?”Princess Eva asked.
“I
must go to the very bottom of the sea. My
guards have looked through all the caves of the south and never found the
dragon’s cave. Luca’s lair must be
hidden under the waters. I will dig
though the sea floor to find him and take back the amulet. He must have closed off the above ground entrance
so no one could find it. I am sure he is
now hiding and laughing at his victory. I will surprise him by entering though
the sea, and I will take back the Dragon’s Eye power I gave him. I will place the ruby in a scepter. All those who touch the scepter,
will be royal children again,” King Omni said. “Guards!”
Several of the guards
who had just returned with the King from his most recent outing, knelt before
him lifted their face, and hit their right hands upon their armored chest.
“Go get my
armor,” commanded King Omni.
Hurriedly they
arose and ran to the castle. When the guards returned, they helped King Omni
into his armor. The King knew it would be the most painful and demanding quest
he would ever endure, but it was for his children, and for them he would give
his own life. King Omni headed into the water. As the guards started to follow,
The King held up his hand and the guards stopped their movement.
Without turning
around King Omni said over his shoulder, “This is a quest I must face alone. Stay and protect my
children,”
King Omni continued walking until he was waist
deep in the water .He drew his sword which had been strapped to his back, and
started dig his blade into the floor of the sea. It did not take long until a
whirlpool formed and the hole became bigger and bigger. He backed away from the whirlpool until it
was a size he could fit through. The once beautiful water became black with mud,
and the black crept up to the seashore where the royal staff and young dragons,
once royals, stood, watching glumly. Finally, the King jumped into the hole. Water,
mud, and the King, went cascading down into the cave below.
“How
will Father ever come back?”Princess Eva cried, directing her question to her
guide. Charity petted her head as she looked out over the sea and said nothing.
None
of the royal staff said a word. Like Eva’s guide, they just stood staring over
the water. The little dragons sat on the sand silently, shuddering in tears on the
shore.
